Hyundai Tucson

The best-selling car of 2024 so far, this large SUV is perfect for families and has all the space you need. A reliable ride available in petrol and hybrid, the Tucson ticks all the boxes for a family SUV. Inside, a touchscreen infotainment system combined with a digital display gives a contemporary feel to the Tucson, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. With a new Tucson setting you back anywhere from €38,000 – €45,000, it sits modestly in the SUV range, giving you a chance at owning one of the most popular vehicles in Ireland.

Toyota Yaris Cross

A slightly smaller SUV, the Yaris Cross still has plenty of space to offer. With front and all-wheel drive available, and 32-29 miles per gallon, the Cross is great for city exploring. A slick look and the tech to match make the Yaris Cross a good alternative to the Tucson. A touchscreen infotainment system and rearview cameras ensure you have all the tech you need to roam the streets in peace. Although not quite as slick as the Tucson, a 4.6% share of the Irish car market suggests the Yaris Cross is here to stay, with prices starting from €27,000.

A slight variation on the Yaris Cross, this small and compact car is great for city driving with enough space still to satisfy a small family. The key word for the Yaris is economical and a car that you can rely on. With the price of a new car starting from €27,000 , and when the comfortable steering and good driving visibility is factored in, the Yaris is a great option for drivers.

With an option to personalise the ride to your demands and top safety features, as well as petrol and plug-in hybrid options, the C-HR has all you need to roam the roads in style. New car prices start from €40,000, making it one of the most expensive cars on this list.

An iconic hatchback makes our list, the VW Golf. As one of the most popular hatchbacks on the market, the VW Golf is renowned for its performance, reliability and practicality. With newer models available as a hybrid, the Golf has been upgraded to the demands of today. A cutting edge infotainment system with six speakers, combined with a sleek interior, makes the Golf a fantastic option and a deserved vehicle in our top five Irish cars list. At a price of €26,000, you can get your hands on a new Golf and join the iconic movement that has spanned decades.
